Props, or proposition
wagers are based on the outcome of a
possible event.
Example :
| Celebrity and
Non-sporting Events |
| Next
3 months Dow Jones indes
drop below 10,000? |
9/9/2006 00:01AM |
| In
the next 3 months, will
the Dow Jones Index drop
below 10,000 on a closing
level? |
| 9227 |
Yes |
+500 |
|
At +500, if you bet "Yes"
for $100, you are betting that by the
closing date of the prop (9/9/06), the
Dow Index will indeed drop below 10,000.
At 5 to 1, if you are right, your $100
will win you $500.
FUTURES
Future wagers are based
far in advance on the outcome of an
event. The main advantage of futures
is that you can get appealing odds by
betting when oddsmakers first release
them or well before an event is decided.
For example, placing a Future wager
on the Kentucky Derby a month ahead
of time can get you a much better price
on a horse than betting much closer
to the race when the contenders are
revealed for all to see.
Example :
For example, if bettors were able to
take the Steelers to win the Super Bowl
at the start of the 2005 - 06 NFL season
at these odds, they were getting them
as high as 9 to 1.
| Will the Steelers
win Super Bowl XL? |
2/05/2006 |
| Will the Pittsburgh
Steelers win the SuperBowl
in 2006? |
| 20526 |
Yes |
